How can it possibly be illegal to collect rain? That's insanity!

I haven't checked out the zoning laws--I definitely will, though. Luckily, I don't have a homeowners association to deal with. I think they're more likely to be a pain about the lawn than the county.

I was going to mention the incident in SLC with collecting rainwater. I just can't believe how crazy people and laws can get.

Have you checked your zoning laws? I seem to remember a homeowner in SLC getting in trouble when he put in an alternative landscape. I think it was mostly wild flowers. I thought it was beautiful. Can't remember how that ended up. But last week, someone in SL got in trouble for collecting rainwater. What's up with that? Next we'll get charged for the value of the water every time it rains on our yard. Of course, I'll be rich because I live in Vernal. Anyway, I hope Virginia laws aren't so silly.

Thanks for the link. I'm definitely gonna read the article. I've always thought the idea of little bits of "nature" that fit into our suburban landscapes was pretty absurd.

As for a "drought-tolerant, low-maintenance" option, I'm partial to "Green Lawn Stain":
Yeah, I'm just in season 1. I figured it would get better, because I just can't imagine that you would like it so much if it stayed the same. I'll just push on through season 1. I'm almost done, just a few more episodes.

Where on you in Buffy? Season 1 is not great--it has a lot of 'monster-of-the-week' eps and only a few vampire-related eps. The show really picks up in s2. It's worth watching s1, though, because it establishes a lot of relationships and other dynamics of the show.

I saw that but I didn't really think anything of it. That's pretty funny to know what it is.

I just watched the Dr. Horrible series. It was freaking awesome!! I had never heard of Joss Whedon until you started blogging and now I love pretty much everything he does. I saw all the firefly and loved it and I'm watching Buffy now. Having a hard time getting into it but maybe it gets better. Very much looking forward to Dollhouse.

I think this "too fat to kill me" thing was tried once before a couple of years back. If I remember correctly, there is (was) a state where the default means of execution was hanging. The condemned could choose lethal injection if they wanted (and all did, I think). This one guy said that having to choose his method of death was, legally, not cool ("cruel and unusual" might have been his argument), but that he was too fat to be hanged. I don't remember how it played out, but I'm fairly sure he met his end, one way or another, by the state's hand.
