May 21: Finally joined netflix
So, in an effort to reduce our debt, we're cancelling cable TV so we can direct the money we would've spent on cable to credit cards. To avoid an all-out child revolt and personal withdrawal, we've joined netflix. We're thinking of it as TV methadone. Of course, if we didn't join netflix, we could apply even more money to debt, but then again, we could also bathe in a stream to save money on showers or something equally drastic like drying our clothes on a clothesline in the basement to avoid using the dryer, one of the biggest money-suckers in the house (oh, wait, we are going to do this last part...).Anyway*, back to the point of this pointless entry. We've joined netflix. Won't you be me my netflix friend? In other netflix news, they've come out with a new set-top box that lets you watch your netflix instant queue on the TV. The reviews are somewhat mixed. The price is good ($100 for the box, no extra fees from netflix), it works well, etc. But, only a fraction of netflix's total collection, 10,000 or so titles, is available for instant viewing. My opinion is that they're probably continually adding to the instantly-viewable collection and that the box would be worth it.* Almost all of my sentences begin with 'so' or 'anyway.' ( <-- I still hate putting the period inside the quote.) Mar 18: A couple videos
Here's a couple videos I thought I'd pass on.
As a recent fan of Guitar Hero on the Wii, this first one made me laugh: (via DCist) This other video shows the 'Big Dog' quadruped robot. The parts where they kick it to try to make it fall, when it slips on ice and when it jumps like a goat are simply amazing. (via Digg) Dec 14: Another month, another post
Since last we met, I've started the new job. Also, I've started looking for another new job. This one isn't working out. It kind of sucks that that it isn't working out, but at least I realized it sooner rather than later.
I never got around to blogging about the second concert I had seen. It was Morrissey at Constitution Hall. It was a great show, but now it's too late to really blog. I'll just say that due to some cosmic fluke we ended up right against the stage for almost the entire concert and that I ended up with a piece of Moz's Dolce and Gabbana shirt and a drumstick. Oh yeah, I also hopped up on stage and was tackled by security. Luckily, a couple people captured it and put it on YouTube (I'm in the red shirt--about a minute into the first vid and right at the beginning of the second): Lastly, I just found this photographer on flickr who shoots a lot of photos of dogs. I'm not much of a dog person, but for some reason, I love a lot of her shots--particularly this one: Check out the rest of her stream.

Nov 14: A couple concerts part 1: Say Hi (to Your Mom)
Cyndi and I went to see two concerts the week of October 28th.
Say Hi was co-headlining with The Velvet Teen with the The A-sides as the opening act. The A-sides sounded pretty good at first (I even commented on how good the sound system sounded), but got pretty tiresome quickly. The Velvet Teen rocked out pretty hard and had one of the most impressive drummers, er... percussionists, I've ever seen. This guy was out of control good. Say Hi was, of course, awesome. This was the second time we've seen them, and the second time they were co-headliners. I really wish they'd come play a show as the only headliner so they could have a little more time to play. As it was, they had about an hour. They played several songs off the new album, which sounded great, and a bunch of older stuff. Again, they denied me by not playing "Yeah, I'm in Love With an Android," or anything off of Disco Sadness, but overall a very fun show. If you don't know Say Hi, I suggest you check them out. They're the epitome of quirky pop. As an extra, the main guy vaguely reminds one of a bearded John Lovitz (in a good way!). Sep 11: Morrissey as a Simpson
