I think this will transpire in the future. I don't think it will happen by disassembling the object or person but by realigning the persons elements so that they don't physically collide with other physical objects during the transfer.
My supposition is that the realignment with not change the personality or reality of the individual, but it will be a permanent change. Once the technique to make such a realignment is discovered, I don't think any further technology will be required. We will be able to beam ourselves up, down or over, even to other dimensions at will. Thought will be the beamer, not Scotty.
Considering that we, in time are exchanging matter on a molecular level constantly, I dont think that this happening in the blink of an eye would change much anyway.
If you take note of the theory of tachyons (the theoretical particles that are so small they are thought to drift in and out of this dimension with the quickness) than it doesnt much make a difference. When we die, we have already replaced all of our atoms time and again. Perhaps at such a rate of change though, in a way, we die and another is reborn. But then, (if one so beleives) what happens to the "soul". I, myself, dont beleive in anything supernatural, but use the term lightly. Nice post Shtikl. I always love a good philosophical conversation.
Ben, could you please send me your email address? I have a favor to ask of you.
