A lot of stuff is happening with the eternal house sale. Some good, some bad. I'll start with the good, because I always want to leave you disappointed.
The house that we really like, the one we
made an offer on in the beginning has finally realized that it needs to lower its price. It dropped by $25,000, which makes a huge difference in our ability to continue eating once we buy it.
So, that's the good. Now the bad.
We were watching TV and I noticed what appeared to be a shadow on the ceiling. It wasn't a shadow, it was a wet spot; our dishwasher has started to leak, and it soaked through the ceiling in the basement. This is very inconvenient considering that we have an open house this Saturday. So, we dried it out as good as we could and decided to call a guy in the morning. But, when I woke up, I decided that I'd take a look at it and see if it was something obvious that I could fix. I pulled it out and dried under it. Then I put it back and ran it to look for the leak. It's leaking from the place where the motor connects to what I assume is the sprayer pump/spinner thing. I can't fix it. Instead of getting some guy to come out and fix it, probably costing $300+, we're just going to buy a used one off of
craigslist. I saw several that looked to be in great condition for less than $100. So, that's my Friday afternoon. Also, we have to paint the ceiling, too. Luckily, it's on the part of the ceiling where the air ducts go, so if we don't match the color exactly, it won't be a problem.
The other bad news is that our next-door neighbors will probably be putting their house on the market in the next week or so. Mr. Neighbor has been looking for jobs in Pittsburgh and he's hearing back today on whether he got one of them. Mrs. Neighbor mentioned that they'll probably list for $350k, which is $10k less than we've got ours up for. Our two houses are basically the same with the differences basically balancing each other out.
Oh yeah, no one came to look at the house last week. That makes it three and a half weeks since the last time someone looked at the house.
I think that's all the bad. So, what's next? With the house we want dropping in price and the neighbors probably becoming competition soon, we have some added urgency to sell the house. So, we're dropping the price for the third time, this time to $354,900. Also, we updated the line in the listing that says we'll consider paying some closing costs to say we'll pay $3,000 in closing costs. Hopefully, since it's not on the day after school's out, we'll get some traffic to our open house this Saturday.
I don't like selling houses.
