Another group of people came to look at the house! Two in two days! That's the highest rate of lookers we've had this whole time. The people who came today didn't look at our neighbor's house.

Oh yeah, today our house has been on the market for six months.

Finally, after more than two months, someone came to look at the house. They even took one of the brochures.

In related news, our next-door neighbors put their house on the market this week and had two people looking at it the next day. Neither came to our house; this I don't understand; why would you go to one house and not the other? Ours is even less expensive (and just a little nicer in my opinion).

Just a couple days after my post about using SimCity for traffic analysis, Slashdot had this story:

Reconstructing Real Cities in Google Earth

NewScientistTech has an article up on the way 3D models of real cities are being uploaded into Google Earth to help town planners and architects envisage their designs. Researchers at the University of Arkansas have developed a method for rapidly mapping building, which they are using to reconstruct the rapidly-expanding town of Fayetteville. The researchers say tools like Google Earth and Sketchup could eventually help ordinary citizens get more involved in urban development.

The linked article is somewhat interesting, but some of the comments are far more so. There is some good discussion about how this is like the open-source model of urban planning and a little discussion of using SimCity and the benefits that could yield. Also, one of the comments links to Google's 3d warehouse, which contains premade 3d models, including a fair amount of buildings in the DC area.

It's cool to see that there are others out there thinking of ways that could empower the average citizen to help with solving this problem.

The offer we made was accepted, but it's meaningless. Our offer said that they would have to give us three days to remove our contingency (our house has to sell before we can buy their's) if they got another, non-contingent, offer. They changed it to one day, so if they get another offer, we've got 24 hours to remove the contingency. Since the only way to remove the contingency is to sell our house, the only thing that this contract does is to let them know that we're interested in buying their house. Oh well, at least something has happened, even if it is nothing.

On a related note, we're only three days shy of having our house on the market for six months.
