Mar 15: Cool/Cute Firefly/Serenity Shirts/Merch
From a post on Whedonesque today, I was led to this:
Black Market Beagles (via) It's a collection of Firefly/Serenity-inspired shirts and other merch that look pretty cool and/or cute. Here's a couple so you get the gist: ![]() ![]() They have several of the main cast as cartoons, so click around and check them out--the shirt Wash's cartoon is wearing is great. Mar 9: Tim Quirk quote on Slashdot
Tim Quirk, unknown hero to all, was quoted on Slashdot in the following story today:
iTunes Sales Ban Does Increase CD Sales The article is about the record companies' recent practice of holding songs back from iTunes and other online music stores. The idea is that if people hear the songs on the radio but can't download it from iTunes, they'll hop in the car, brave the mall, and buy the CD. Here's Tim's bit from the article linked from the /. story: The labels are shooting themselves in the foot," said Tim Quirk, executive editor of the Rhapsody music service. To the labels, Mr. Quirk advises, "every single track that you are worried about is available for free whether you want it to be or not. This probably isn't very interesting to many people other than those, who like me, are huge fans of Tim Quirk. I know him mainly because he's in the bands Too Much Joy and Wonderlick (I'm the webmaster for their website, I was even mentioned in the CD liner of TMJ's live album). Also, he's written a lot of great articles about the music industry. He has a unique viewpoint as someone who has released music independently as well as through a major label, and has worked in the internet music industry as an employee of Listen.com which was bought out by Real a while ago. I've decided not to write an entire article to convince you how cool he is. Suffice it to say, he's really cool. And, he's got a lot of smart stuff to say. So, in conclusion, here's a picture of him and me (obviously, so you can see how cool I am by association):
Mar 5: Some photos
When I started 18%, I had originally thought it would be sort of a photo-blog, where I just post a lot of random photos. But, along the way, it's become mainly a place to just post my best shots. So, I'm going to start posting those random photos here. They're photos I've taken that I like, but aren't 18%-worthy.
My first two are below. The first is my daughter Claire sitting by the window. There were these great clouds floating by that I had intended to get in focus. A few of the shots had them in focus, but in the end, I decided that I like this one with the clouds blurry. The second is of some roses sitting on the kitchen table. With both shots, I was messing around with the new telephoto lens Cyndi bought me last month. Click on the icons to view larger:
