It's basically a super computer that is small enough and quiet enought to sit on or under a normal desk. Technically, it's a cluster of 4 small blade servers that can accomodate an unholy amount of processor power and RAM (up to 16 processor cores and 64 gigs of RAM).
The article mentions two negatives: separate keyboard/video/mouse connections and gigabit ethernet. Neither are problems for me since I ssh (remote command line) into all of my servers and I've never used anything faster than gig-E, anyway.

They're saying GigE is too slow? What do they want? TeraE? Maybe FiberE? Perhaps SomeOtherEI'veNeverHeardOfE?
Also, "unholy" is a fantastic adjective, which is not used nearly enough. I plan to do my best to remedy that.
They specifically mention infiniband, which I think is fiber. For real heavy duty clusters, I think fiber is the standard. I think they're basically saying that if you're throwing a ton of data to and fro, the faster interconnect you use, the better. It'd probably add a bunch to the cost, though.
Actually, from the wikipedia article on infiniband, it seems as if it's not fiber-based:

It looks like it's capable of 2.5 gigabits by default, but there's also double and quad rates, and you can aggregate links in units of 4 or 12 for speeds up to 120 gigabits.
