I think that unions cannot typically strike against the government (city, state, federal, etc), because then the gov't can't function. Fire department, police, etc; they all have unions but typically can't strike. Ronald Reagan famously fired all the air traffic controllers after they tried to strike in the '80's.
Yeah, but how is that legal? I see the employer/empoyee relationship as the same (government vs. company). It seems to unfairly remove an important right just because you work for the government. If the gov. doesn't want to shutdown, they should treat their employees fairly.
